After graduating in Hotel Management, Amy pursued post-graduate studies with a Masters in Management from the University of Essex, UK. She started her career as an F & B outlet manager with the luxury hotel chain, The Oberoi Hotels, and then worked at the well- known ethnic restaurant ‘Chutney Mary’ in London. Making a life-style choice to live in the beautiful English countryside, Amy took up a job as the F & B Manager at the manor house hotel and convention centre “Wivenhoe House” in Essex.

Entrepreneurship driven, Amy has also successfully run her own catering companies alongside, selling up to make the next adventurous move…to Singapore.

Amy calls herself a ‘travelholic’, is drawn to places with mysticism, history and culture, and loves making friends with people from all over the world- “I look for unity within the diversity”. Always ready for a cuppa Earl Grey and a laugh, Amy’s holistic take on life is “Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." - Albert Einstein

Mr Royston Ang
Mr Ang See Kiang, Royston
Lecturer

Royston Ang holds a B.Sc degree with honours in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Surrey in UK. He was a lecturer with The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) specializing in the area of food and beverage operations before joining The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa. During his 2½ years tenure with ITE, he was part of the pioneering team in the development of ITE’s two Nitec programs in Culinary Skills (Western Cuisine) and F&B Operations.

Prior to his academic endeavour, he spent some 6½ years in the hospitality industry acquiring a vast diversity of work experience in areas of food & beverage operations, sales and marketing as well as events management. Companies that he has worked with include Changi Village Hotel - Le Meridien, Copthrone Harbour View Singapore (now known as M Hotel), Laguna National Golf & Country Club and Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre (SICEC).

Royston spent some 3½ years overseas where he read his degree program and his passion in food and beverage management was nurtured at The International Hotel Management Institute in Lucerne, Switzerland, where he was among the top in his cohort to graduate with a first class honour award. His other academic credentials include The IATA-UFTAA Diploma in Tourism and Travel and AHMA Certificate in Food & Beverage Management.

Besides traveling, Royston likes to unwind by engaging in sporting activities like swimming, brisk walking and playing badminton with his family. Occasionally, he finds time to chill out with his golf kakis after a round of golf. He is also a karaoke freak and loves to exercise his vocal cord whenever the opportunity arises.

Miss Claudereine Tan
Miss Clauderlene Tan
Lecturer

Clauderlene’s area of specialization is in Museum Management and Exhibition Planning and Development.

As part of the pioneering team for Singapore Philatelic Museum, Clauderlene was involved in curating exhibitions, developing outreach (exhibitions and programmes) and public programmes (events). She developed the Museum’s first travelling exhibition to local libraries and schools which became a permanent feature of the Museum’s outreach efforts and a springboard for the museum’s consultancy services; a revenue generating arm. Besides offering consultancy to schools and organizations looking to establish galleries or exhibitions, Clauderlene also conducted workshops on developing exhibitions for students and statutory boards. Clauderlene was responsible for expanding the museum’s exhibition programme to include stamp design and correspondence, and introducing different mediums of communication as part of its exhibition eg. non-collection-based exhibitions, robotics and digital film.

When the Museum became a part of the National Heritage Board in 2000, Clauderlene spearheaded the first collaborative exhibition between two NHB-institutions and organized the first public forum for stamp design in Singapore as part of a cutting edge exhibition exploring a sub-culture of philately and stamp design. She was also part of the team that developed its first advertisement campaign on MRT trains and a major exhibition celebrating Singapore’s 40th National Day. Clauderlene concluded her eleven-year stint with the official opening of the upgraded permanent galleries and the Museum’s first exhibition for children who have not mastered their three ‘Rs’ – reading, writing and arithmetic.

Clauderlene has a BA in Communication Studies from Murdoch University and a post-graduate diploma in Museum Studies from Leicester University.

Mr Chan Seng Fai
Lecturer

“Ex Scientia Fortitudo” - “From Knowledge, Courage”

An educator at heart, Seng Fai has always been passionate about the reflective mind and believes that it is what we do that will both define and empower us. Currently a lecturer with The Tourism Academy at Sentosa (Singapore), Seng Fai is pleased to be in a position to share with others aspects of learning and development that will enhance one’s robustness in facing life’s many challenges.

A keen thinker and learner himself, Seng Fai graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from The Nanyang Technological University followed by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) specializing in Secondary School Education. Furthering his knowledge capabilities with a Master of Applied Finance, Seng Fai has experience in the education field as well as the banking sector, marrying the finer aspects of wealth management with a practical lean towards wealth creation.

While not taking time out to sip the occasional wine, Seng Fai is a sporting enthusiast who enjoys dragon boat rowing and has represented Singapore in a previous international competition. He welcomes good coffee with friends and is a regular fixture at coffee joints with great banter.

Mr Dillon Lee Senq Tee
Lecturer

After finishing his Commerce degree with The University of Western Australia, majoring in Management and Marketing, Dillon left Australia and started his working career with The Westin Singapore Hotels as a management trainee (Front Office). Since then he has also worked with The Hyatt chain. He spent more than four years in the hospitality industry before leaving to pursue his Postgraduate Diploma in Business (majoring in Information Systems) with Curtin University as his personal interest has always been in Information Technology.

Subsequently, he returned to Singapore and worked with several IT companies in various capacities. Having worked within both the Hotel and the IT industries, the experience allowed Dillon to have a unique combination of skills and experience in both areas. As such, he joined Temasek Polytechnic, specializing in Hotel Operations and Business Information Technology. Recently he was a Regional Implementation Consultant with Micros before re-joining Temasek Polytechnic as a lecturer.

In his spare time Dillon is an avid gamer, playing games across all platforms. His interest in games and software sees him spending a lot of time trying and testing newly-released software on a personal basis. He also plays pick-up basketball on the weekends with his friends as a healthy form of exercise.

Mr Kor Chan Chiong, Mark
Lecturer

Hospitality industry and IT are Mark’s greatest passions. Specialising in Rooms Division, he has worked in the hospitality industry for over 10 years under various capacities with both Raffles Hotel and Meritus Mandarin Hotel, Singapore. During that period of time, besides enjoying the challenging day-to-day hotel operations, he kept himself busy with another key interest that is IT, so much so that he eventually obtained a degree in the field. Being a stout supporter of all things IT, he firmly believes the new generation hoteliers should be competent in IT in order to gain the competitive edge. Now he enthusiastically shares his two passions with his students.

Having worked in the hotel industry, he is also a stout believer in providing good service, and shares what the late Ellsworth Statler's (Founder of Statler Hotel) insights on providing service wholeheartedly—"Life is service. The one who progresses is the one who gives his fellow men a little more, a little better, service"

In his spare time, besides taking pleasures from the company of close friends and listening to evergreen music, Mark enjoys reading, jogging, snooker, playing table tennis and tinkering with his computers.

Mr Gan See Siong
Mr Gan See Siong
Lecturer

Gan See Siong has a bachelor's degree in business administration from the National University of Singapore and an MBA from the University of South Australia. He has toted some 20 years to his credit in the MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) industry and had organized numerous conferences and exhibitions in Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and China covering industries as diverse as airshow, defence, security, IT, food, HRD, glass, apparel machinery, medical, construction, brewery, etc. He has worked for the National Productivity Board (now known as Spring Singapore), Conference & Exhibition Management Services Pte Ltd and the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Mega conventions he had handled include: The 26 Th World Congress of the International Society of Haematology (1996), the 35 TH Congress and General Assembly of the International Sports Federations (2001) and the 24 TH International Congress of Applied Psychology 2002. He was also instrumental in creating the GLASSTECH Asia series of exhibitions in 1998 which is now the leader event of its kind in the region.

Gan writes the occasional poem and has been published in “From Boys to Men: A Literary Anthology of National Service in Singapore (2002)”, Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, Poetry Billboard , and the Asian American Poetry .

Ms Susila
Ms Krishnasamy Susila
Lecturer

Susila is a certified Master NLP practitioner, EQ Coach and certified Behavioural Consultant (DISC). Her experience spans 20 years of primary, secondary, tertiary and adult education. She has an MA (Language) from the National University of Singapore and is a qualified teacher from the National Institute of Education (NIE).

She specialises and trains in the areas of language and communication, EQ, thinking strategies, Problem-based learning strategies and facilitation skills, time management, self-esteem, leadership, business networking, rapport building using NLP strategies, business etiquette and service excellence.

She has trained extensively over 10 years and some of her clients include NTUC, MASTEC, SIA, MDIS, IPAM, SNEF, SCI, MOE, SAF, Sin Soon Huat Pte Ltd, OCBC, Kumon Centre, MD Specialist Healthcare, SUNTEC Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, CPG Laboratories Pte Ltd, Naval Institute of Technical Operations, Qiaonan Primary School, Temasek Junior College, Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ Secondary School, Temasek Secondary School, ST College and SINDA.

She has also successfully facilitated several language and communication, and tourism development programmes under the bannership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore, since 2000.

Mr Eugene Lee

Lecturer

Eugene began his career with the Inland Revenue of Authority of Singapore as a Tax Officer for four years and then went on to pursue a full-time post graduate degree, where he studied Tourism Management at the University of Sydney. Being passionate about tourism, he joined the Singapore Tourism Board where he worked for the next eight years. During that time, he was involved in corporate and sector planning, industry development for the hospitality sector, consultancy in Cambodia, and other international relations work with the ASEAN National Tourism Organisations and Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). He is experienced in both strategic planning as well as running large scale events such as the ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting in 1999. His most recent portfolio with the Singapore Tourism Board was as an Assistant Director of Strategic Funding, where he was instrumental in evaluating industry proposals for funding and tax incentives.

Besides his public sector experience, Eugene also spent a year doing consulting and research work for a private company, Masterconsult Services. He did consulting projects for local tourism players as well as for the Abu Dhabi government.

During his leisure, Eugene believes in picking up new skills and has done courses in clay pottery and massage therapy. He enjoys traveling and meeting people of different cultures. His dream is to run an inn, and hopes to be a travel writer at the same time.

Mr Terrence Lou
Mr Terence Lou
Section Head

Terence joined The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa after spending sometime as a volunteer trainer in the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Cambodia. He is a Certified Public Accountant and had worked as an auditor, financial analyst and finance manager. Instead of dealing with cold hard numbers only, Terence found that his passion in coaching and working with people. He then became a lecturer at another polytechnic in Singapore before joining The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa. Terence’s teaching and training experiences include conceiving, designing and delivering lessons to full time young students and part-time adult learners. He is now lecturing and tutoring our students in Accounting and Management Accounting & Finance.

Social issues and community work are Terence’s other interest areas. He is a volunteer mentor with a family service centre, where he hopes to use his psychology training to the benefit of his clients. Occasionally, Terence enjoys experimenting with recipes from the Naked Chef and getting his friends to be his test rats. To burn off the calories, he kick-boxes every weekend, a sport he took up 4 years ago.

Ms Ng Lee Li
Section Head

Lee Li is currently a lecturer at the Tourism Academy @ Sentosa. Prior to joining the Tourism Academy , she headed the Public Relations and Marketing department (PRM) and served as the Quality Service Manager at the Singapore Science Centre.

Besides promoting Science Centre for the last 4.5 years, she also spent over a year heading the Visitor Services Department on top of the PR & Marketing functions. While at the Science Centre, she was involved in many of their activities for the public and local as well as students.

Before joining the Science Centre in October 2000, she lectured for 7 years in the School of Business Management at Nanyang Polytechnic where she taught travel / tourism and marketing. Prior to lecturing, she spent 4 years marketing Sentosa Island to the world! All in all she has 15 years of industry experiences.

Lee Li obtained her Arts Degree in General Sociology from Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1988 with a Masters Degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also had a minor in Leisure Science while pursing her bachelor's degree at Oklahoma .

Ms Maeve O'Brien
Ms Maeve O'Brien
Lecturer

Maeve hails from the Southwest coast of The Republic of Ireland. The youngest of six children, Maeve followed the example of her siblings, traveling and working within the European Union. She decided to return to education at a mature age (she was always the granny in her classes!) studying in the UK and Paris. Maeve loves music of all kinds, from traditional Irish folk to rap. Her niece is a known opera singer in her native country and family get-togethers always involve sing-songs.

Maeve also loves hill walking and fishing, a past time she lovingly shared with her father. Her mother was a fabulous cook and the O’Brien household was famous in the town for unusual menu creations.

Fellow Irish, poet W.B. Yeats, sums up her ethos "Think like a wise man but communicate in the language of the people."

Mr Kelvin Seah
Lecturer


“I teach, so I may learn.”

Kelvin possesses more than ten years of wide-ranging experience in property, tourism, human resource development, training and teaching. His last position before joining The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa was with STB as Manager (Corporate Relations), where he handled both local and international media and corporate clients to uphold STB’s corporate image and Singapore’s position as the tourism hub of South-east Asia.

Kelvin has also conducted workshops such as a business-writing workshop to prison inmates in Singapore. He has also lived and taught in Hanoi for over two years. There, besides designing curriculum, he lectured and tutored over 170 Vietnamese undergraduates in Tourism Management and English, at the Hanoi University of Foreign Studies as well as Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction & a top private school.

Kelvin holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Estate Management from the National University of Singapore. He also possesses a Specialist Diploma in Human Resource Development from the Singapore Human Resource Institute and Temasek Polytechnic. In addition, he holds a Level 4 Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults as a Foreign Language (CELTA), conferred by the University of Cambridge and administered by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University English Worldwide.

In his spare time, he enjoys swimming, reading, music, movies and, most recently, in-line skating.

Mr Alan Tan
Mr Tan Chai Soon, Alan
Lecturer

Alan Tan graduated with BSc in Hospitality and Tourism Management with the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management and an NTC-2 in Food Preparation. He was also the champion for the 1997 SAWEA wine tasting competition.

Prior to joining the Tourism Academy @ Sentosa, he was the Section Head with ITE, leading a team of lecturers in F&B operations and Culinary Skills. He is also the pioneering staff tasked to spearhead the Nitec in F&B Operations and Nitec in Culinary Skills courses for ITE.

His last position with the industry was the Kitchen Operations Manager for the Marmalade group of restaurants, leading a team of professional chefs in the food production operation.

Armed with teaching 5 years of teaching experience with SHATEC, he taught F&B related subjects to young professionals and hoteliers. He has led a student culinary team representing Singapore at the World Exposition 2000 in Hanover Germany.

His F&B experience include marketing various F&B projects, developing food service concept and product development.

Having run his own business, Alan believes that all students must be inculcated with a sense of entrepreneurial spirit.

In his leisure, he would care for his planted aquarium and watch movies.

Ms Tay Kay Hwee
Ms Tay Kay Hwee
Lecturer

Kay Hwee brings with her over 15 years of experience in the travel industry. She has accomplishments spanning various areas: Sales & Marketing, Product Development, Training, Information Technology and General Management. Kay Hwee’s career took on a new height when she became the Country Manager for New Zealand Tourism Board in Thailand. With her host of travel experience, she joined TravelNet to manage its Travel Franchise and Training business. Prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic, she was with Pacific Century Cyber Works ( PCCW ) to promote an integrated travel software, named Gilboa. She acquired good knowledge in the areas of automation and ecommerce for the travel industry.

Today, Kay Hwee is a happy mother of a 9-month old boy. As a mother, she discovered “unconditional love” and the humbleness of being. She said, “My baby son showed me how human beings grow and learn – which is a very humbling and endearing experience”.

Her next ambition in life – To be a good lecturer and mother.

Ms Teo Pheck Thar
Ms Teo Pheck Thar
Senior Lecturer

Pheck Thar holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree and a Master of Education. She is also an associate member of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and a CPA.

Her specialization is in the areas of accounting and audit. She has worked in public accounting and was involved in the financial audits of companies in businesses extending from trading, service, manufacturing, stock-broking, banking and finance to statutory boards. She has also worked for a property management and development group, handling the group's financial and management accounting matters. She has a wealth of experience in teaching having taught in Ngee Ann Polytechnic for seven years before joining Temasek Polytechnic when it started in 1990.

A meticulous person, she seeks for inner contentment and peace, constantly charging herself with new challenges. According to Pheck Thar, joining Temasek Polytechnic as a pioneer and currently being part of the Tourism Academy are invigorating in many ways.
