Yahui said: “Many people including Professors, interviewers and current employer had asked if I regretted taking the polytechnic path instead of the JC path as I actually took a longer route to complete my education. Personally, I have never regretted my decision of taking up a polytechnic education. In fact, I am glad that I had chosen this path. It is the experience that I gained in my years in TP that groomed me to be the person I am today. Through project works, I was better equipped with problem solving and communication skills that helped me to be more effective in working with people as well as time management” | ![]()
Ms Gong Bei, an international student from China, graduated from TP in 2001. Her outstanding accomplishments in both study and CCA earned her offers from three big players in the logistics industry even before she graduated. She finally chose Global Airfreight Int’l Pte Ltd, one of the biggest local freight forwarding companies, as she saw the potential for growing together with the company. Impressed by her exceptional performance and by recognizing her contribution the company co-sponsored her for a degree course at University of Western Australia and not surprisingly, she further proved her ability with 12 Distinctions out of 16 subjects. Now being the youngest manager in the company, she is in charge of developing the company’s business in China and flies frequently to various cities to explore business opportunities. When asked what she would think the best thing(s) of TP, she said: “TP, a dynamic polytechnic with state-of-the-art technologies and teaching methods, equips its students with the most practical skills. One can always make friends form both Singapore and other countries and learn from its diversified culture. This is very important because your future job would probably involve interactions on an international scale. TP is just the place where you can build up your confidence and be readily prepared for your future challenges.” | ![]()

Peiqi was a silver medallist at the 2003 SEA Games, when she represented Singapore in Taekwondo. Having been part of the national team for over a decade, Peiqi has always had to balance school life with her sporting passion. Whilst in TP, learning to perform both in school and the sports arena proved to be a challenge which helped her to grow as a person. She believes her analytical and problem-solving skills were honed by the practical and creative environment at TP. Lecturers often shared their industrial experiences, providing a lively atmosphere and valuable insight into the 'real' working world. A bond also formed between her and several warm and approachable lecturers. Even to this day, almost 5 years after graduation, they continue to be important mentors. She recently graduated from Nanyang Technological University with 2nd Upper Honours Bachelors degree in Business and is currently an employee with Bloomberg L.P. Peiqi believes TP played an integral role in her success both in school and at work. As she candidly put it "Just as my TP alumni card says I'll "always be part of TP" - the life skills I have learnt there will continue to benefit me in everything I undertake". | ![]() |
