A 3-in-1 Feat for Sari

Sari Tresna, 2007
A THREE-in-one Feat for Sari

Top student of the Diploma in Accounting & Finance, Sari Tresna, proved her mettle many times over by concurrently securing two other professional qualifications in accounting with distinctions, blazing a new trail that few can match, let alone surpass.

Even before she begun her diploma course in TP in 2004, this ambitious lady had already enrolled herself as an ACCA student in August 2003.  In almost clock-work fashion, she cleared the modules one after another, and obtained her ACCA qualifications in August 2006, earning herself a place as one of the top 30 students in Singapore at the final ACCA level.  Meanwhile, Sari also enrolled in an ACCA partnership degree programme at Oxford Brookes University, and successfully obtained the Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting with honours in January 2007.

What is Sari’s recipe for this awe-inspiring feat? “Basically, it boils down to having a disciplined time management system and plenty of guidance & support from lecturers, family and friends. Study should be viewed is a process, not a one-off, instantaneous effort. Don’t shortchange yourself – aim for the best you can achieve, instead of settling for the lower peaks. Most importantly, enjoy the whole learning journey!”

Not that this journey was rosy for Sari. “I could have postponed my ACCA course but I challenged myself to juggle between poly studies & ACCA, not forgetting to also set aside time for personal quality time. These experiences have taught me that life is like a spring – you mustn’t be afraid to give it the right pressures...and see it bounce beyond your expectations. ”

Not surprising, Sari secured the coveted scholarship with RSM Chio Lim, the 7th largest accounting and consulting organisation, and received sponsorship from the firm for both her diploma studies (final year) and ACCA exams (final three papers). She also served her student internship at RSM Chio Lim and has since joined the firm as an audit assistant.

On a final note, Sari has a simple piece of advice to share : “Think ahead, even as a student - visualise what do you want to do in your career ahead, and you will feel more motivated to work towards your very own dreams. This goal-orientation approach has worked very well for me.”
