Korea is the Classroom
For student at Temasek Business School, learning sometimes takes them to the global classroom of real-life encounters. From 12 to 17 June 2007, Juniors from the Diploma in Retail Management made a study trip to Seoul, Korea and experienced various retail formats in an itinerary as varied as Seoul’s retail scene. At the Korean National Tourism Organisation (KNTO), students got information about Korean culture and the Seoul
retail scene. A lecture at Hannam University provided insights into customer relationship management practices in Seoul’s retail industry. What better way to learn about retail management than to become shoppers at popular locales like Dongdaemun and Namdaemun? There, students sourced for merchandise for 1st Avenue as part of their Merchandise Buying project. 1st Avenue is a dedicated Centre of Excellence at Temasek Business School where students learn more about retailing. The students said “anyangi hasayeo” or goodbye to Korea after much learning. Of the trip participant, Lee Jian Hai, said, “It opened my eyes to the retailing culture in Seoul. I learnt a lot about negotiation and decision-making skills.” The classroom of the world has no boundaries in the best learning experiences, it seems. |
