This year, MeetingYoungMinds@BIT2008, an annual event to highlight the achievements of BIT students, was held on 4th March 2008 from 2pm to 5pm at Lecture Theatre 19, in Temasek Business School. The MeetingYoungMinds event was well attended by about 200 students, staff and industry guests.
The event included 3 seminars, jointly conducted by industry guest speakers and students, on projects in the areas of Business Intelligence (BI), Interactive Digital Media (IDM), and Open Source Business Solutions.
The opening address was delivered by the Mr Jerry Chen, Deputy Director of Temasek Business School, followed by the keynote address by Mr Roger Khoo, member of the Temasek Business School Advisory Committee as well as the Chief Executive Officer of GasHub Power Pte Ltd. The next speaker was Mr Chin Yen. He is the co-founder and managing director of PulseMetrics Pte Ltd, a provider of data mining and CRM analytics solutions. He spoke on BI as well as the BI projects that two groups of students did for his company. He highly commended the groups for their major projects, as these serve the needs of his company. Following which, Ms Cindy Lim, from the Enterprise Group of International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, spoke about the IDM project that students completed for IE Singapore. This project was done on the Second Life platform, and will be used to promote Singapore’s products and services to the world. The introduction of IDM projects in BIT was a relatively new development, and was driven by industry demand. This year, the Ministry of Trade and Industry offered 3 IDM projects to BIT students, and all 3 were taken up. Lastly, the mToggle project was presented during the OpenSource Seminar. It is an innovative and commercially viable business solution that students have developed for their start-up company in collaboration with REX, a domestic airline company in Sydney.
Besides seminars, students were on hand in the computer laboratories to demonstrate and show industry guests how to use the systems that they have developed. A total of 41 projects, all done collaboratively with our industry partners, were showcased. We are proud to say that every project has either met or exceeded the expectations of our industry partners. More information about the projects can be found below.
If you are would like to know more about the event or are interested to work with us in student internship or projects, please contact Ms Phyllis Chong at phyllisc@tp.edu.sg.
