| | | | | Completing a Set of Accounts
Are you able to pore through documents to complete a full set of accounts? Are you able to generate the financial statements to determine whether the firm is making a profit or loss and whether it is financially healthy?
A practice set of accounts is given to students as a group project to apply and integrate all the concepts learnt in Financial Accounting 1 & 2. They use source documents such as invoices, credit notes to go through the accounting process of recording in journals, posting to ledgers and preparing a set of properly classified financial statements.
| | | | | Computerising Accounting System using ACCPAC
Welcome to the world of computerised accounting! This subject introduces students to ACCPAC – a popular accounting software used by many businesses today.
To give a real-world perspective, students are challenged with the task of computerizing the accounting system of a company which keeps manual records with many resulting frustrations. From this project, students discover and apply the capabilities of ACCPAC to help businesses streamline accounting tasks and generate useful information for decision making.
| | | | | Investment Game
Can you survive the tough, rough and merciless world of investment? Should you buy SIA shares or is it better to buy shares of DBS Bank?
In the subject, Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, students form teams of four to invest $250,000 in their choice of investments as part of their project work. The goal is to make as much profit as possible through trading in securities listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX).
In the process of playing the game, students learn how to analyse and value shares based on events affecting the economy and the stock markets.
| | | | | Examining an Annual Report
Annual reports of companies contain a seemingly endless and complex maze of financial information, and can be intimidating to a new financial statement user.
The Partnership & Company Accounts assignment provides students the opportunity to demystify this maze by examining an annual report to appreciate the information it contains. Students peruse annual reports to answer questions relating to diverse items such as chairman’s address, audit opinion and many others.
They find that the annual report is in reality a useful “map” that if used correctly, can convey interesting and important facts about the company’s well-being.
