Liaison Officer
A lecturer appointed to oversee the students attached to the company, shall serve as the Liaison Officer. Queries and clarifications can be directed to the Liaison Officer.
Company Supervisor
Students will only receive instruction and guidance directly from their reporting companies. The company must assign at least a supervisor to oversee the performance and progress of the student.
Allowance
It is recommended that employers pay a minimum monthly allowance of $440 (no CPF) inclusive of public holidays. In the past, many employers have paid more than this minimum rate. Overtime pay shall be paid for work beyond 44 hours per week.
**For HTM, LRM, CCM and HTB students, employers are recommended to pay a minimum monthly allowance of S$500 (no CPF) per month
Work permit
Foreign students are exempted from work permit requirements.
Training Programme
Employers shall adhere to the training programme submitted earlier to the Polytechnic. Should the programme be changed, employers are requested to inform the Liaison Officer as soon as possible.
Employers shall conduct a brief general orientation/induction for the student(s) at the start of their attachment to help them gain a better understanding of the organisation. The orientation shall cover an overview of the company, its history and main products & services, organisation structure (indicating where the student would fit in, and the nature of the job he/she is attached to) and possibly a tour of the facilities.
Students are required to complete a report detailing their work experience in the organisation. They may approach the organisation for information and clarification on company policies and practices.
Student attendance & schedule of work
Employers shall not schedule students to work beyond 11pm, where possible. Student attendance shall be recorded daily and this shall be administered by the employers.
Student’s application for leave other than compassionate/medical/ supplementary exam and special/emergency leave is not allowed. Supporting documents for leave must be provided by students.
Insurance
Employers shall provide the normal Workmen Compensation Insurance coverage for employees. Students are also covered under the Polytechnic’s insurance policy.
Overseas assignment
Employers who require students to work outside Singapore shall inform the Liaison Officer at least three weeks before the assignment to obtain parental consent.
Performance appraisal
Employers are required to complete a performance appraisal on each student based on their work in the organisation.
Company feedback
At the end of the attachment period, employers are requested to complete the SIP Feedback form and forward it to the Liaison Officer / Administrative Officer.
