B115022 Language and Communication 1
Emphasises foundation/study skills and academic writing. Aims at providing students with the necessary language and listening skills to facilitate academic learning.

B115023 Introduction to Law and Criminal Law
Introduces the students to the concept of law, foundational principles and the legal system under which the laws in Singapore operate. Also deals with the Criminal Law of Singapore, covering the main offences and defences in the Penal Code (Cap 224).

B115024 Principles of Management
Provides an understanding of the key functions of management and the practical issues confronting managers today. Topics include planning, organising, leading, controlling, international management and ethics and social responsibility.

B115025 Language and Communication 2
Gives students an overview of interpersonal skills. Covers key fundamentals of interpersonal communication, assertive skills and negotiation skills. Also covers written communication and participants learn to write short reports relevant to their line of work.

B115026 Productivity and Service Quality
Equips students with the knowledge, skills and mindset of productivity and service quality. This practice-oriented programme emphasises workshops and a hands-on approach through experiential learning.

B115027 Computer Fundamentals
Foundational subject in computing. Participants learn fundamental concepts of the computer, its hardware and software components and their functions. Participants are taught essential WINDOWS commands. They will also be trained to use a word processing package to produce business reports and documents promptly and in a highly-presentable format.

B115028 Language and Communication 3
Equips participants with the skills necessary for work. Gives an overview of the various kinds of business correspondence in the working world. Participants will also learn how to write cover letters and memoranda. Also focuses on the conduct and management of meetings and teaches the art of oral presentation.

B115029 Commercial Law
Provides participants with the knowledge of the principles of law that are important in the commercial world. Topics covered include law of contracts, sales of goods, agency, company law and law of torts.

B115030 Principles of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
Provides a historical overview of law enforcement. Topics/issues such as the concepts/guiding principles of law enforcement, conflicts of interest in law enforcement and rights of citizens will be covered and discussed.

Diploma (Year 1)

B115031 Principles of Security and Risk/Threat Analysis
Introduces to participants the major components of private security and risk identification. It will involve an overview of security protection, ie. physical, electronic and security operations and an appreciation of good access control systems. The students will also learn how to identify risks and assess protective measures.

B115032 Public Relations
Provides an understanding of public relations management. Covers PR tools and techniques, such as writing of press releases and types of PR publications, organising PR events, news media and media relations, corporate communication, crisis management, ethics in PR and programmes which enhance the understanding and relations between an organisation and its public.

B115033 Organisational Behaviour
Provides participants with an understanding of the key determinants of human behaviour, at both the individual and group levels, in an organisation. It aims to develop the ability to use organisational behaviour concepts to improve personal, interpersonal and group interaction skills. Some of the topics are perception, motivation, reinforcement theory, group dynamics and conflict management.

B115039 Introduction to Statistics
Covers data collection, data analysis and sampling methodologies, data presentation incorporating descriptive cum summary measures, index numbers and time series. It also introduces students to the concepts of probability and distribution.

B115035 Business Accounting
Provides an understanding of basic accounting concepts and its application in business. It covers the double-entry system, income measurement, assets and liabilities, income statement and balance sheet preparation and accounting conventions.

B115036 Human Resource Management
Provides students with an awareness of the importance of HRM in an organisation. They will get an understanding of the various human resource management functions, the impact of effective HRM practices on organisational and employee performance and the role of line managers in HRM. Some of the topics are recruitment and selection, performance appraisal, training and development and compensation management.

B115050 Physical Security
Examines aspects of physical barriers in security protection. It will cover an assessment of various materials and products used in controlling access, protection in external and internal areas and a review of building security.

B115038 Decision-Making and Problem Solving
Equips participants with tools and practical techniques to solve problems and make better decisions. Case studies that simulate real-life situations will be used.

B115034 Criminal Procedure and Law of Evidence
Criminal Procedure introduces the relevant provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code and the cases interpreting the provisions. Students will be acquainted with the documents and proceedings leading to a criminal trial and the conduct of such trials. The criminal justice system and the range of penalties will also be covered. Law of Evidence provides an examination of the Evidence Act. Topics covered include the admissibility of evidence, the burden and the standard of proof and the concepts relating to the competency, comparability and corroboration of witnesses.

Diploma (Year 2)

B115049 Electronic Security
Provides participants with knowledge of the basic principles of electronic protection and the application of various electronic security equipment. The module will cover an assessment of various electronic security devices such as operating principles, cost effectiveness, advantages and limitations.

B115041 Aviation Security
Introduces aviation security and practical work conditions in the aviation industry. It emphasises the practical applications of concepts and skills dealing with airport security issues.

B115042 Use of Statistics and Crime Trends
Involves the use of statistical data on crime trends to measure crime rates. Statistical research methods and analysis of statistics will be taught.

B115043 Police-Managed Student Project
Integrates the study of concepts, principles, management and technology which are covered in other Police subjects of the course. The emphasis is on the practical application of the knowledge acquired in the earlier subjects.

B115046 Facility Management
Aims to familiarise participants with the concept of facility management. Emphasis will be placed on interaction between fire protection and asset security. Fire protection will include detection systems, codes and standards, high-rise and industrial fire management and evacuation procedures.

B115044 Quality Management
Deals with the role of quality for organisations. The topics covered are principles and techniques for quality control and the concept and application of Total Quality Management. The ISO9000 and 14000 will also be covered.

B115094 Mediation and Counselling
Covers the key theoretical and practical approaches. Participants gain both knowledge and skills relating to mediation and counselling.

B115047 SATS-Managed Student Project
This project integrates the study of concepts, principles, management and technology which were covered in other SATS subjects of the course. The emphasis is on the practical application of the knowledge acquired in the earlier subjects.

B115048 Crisis Management
Aims to give participants an insight into the types of crisis that can take place in the airport and how the various authorities manage them. It also gives the mechanics involved in the handling of bomb threats.

B115045 Management of Security Systems
Covers effective strategies for the security of the assets of organisation. The protection of assets includes the building and its contents, the employees and the public. The development of a Total Security Plan for the corporation will also be examined.

B115037 Principles of Investigations
Deals with principles, methods and investigative techniques to locate, document and disseminate information relating to offences which have been committed. Includes recognition, collection and preservation of evidence.

B115051 CISCO-Managed Student Project
This project integrates the study of concepts, principles, management and technology which were covered in other CISCO subjects of the course. The emphasis is on the practical application of the knowledge acquired in the earlier subjects.
