Supply Chain Asia, a much-talked about event in the logistics industry, took place at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront from 18th to 20th July this year. 20 students from the Diploma in Logistics & Operations Management were selected to attend the forum as participants cum event helpers. They were accompanied by two lecturers: Mrs Cheryl Wee and Ms Oh Hui Ling.
With a strong turnout of more than 300 delegates from 26 countries, the 2-day seminar was an eye-opener experience for the students. Besides learning from the industry leaders on a wide range of supply chain topics, the students also mingled and interacted with the delegates from different countries.
“It is really heartening to see the dedication from the lecturers and especially the students to an external event. I could feel passion and belief in both the lecturers and students that it warms the hearts of not just me as an organizer but many of the delegates who interacted with them.” Mr. Paul Lim, the President of the Supply Chain Asia.
“I’m so glad that I’ve been selected to represent TP at this seminar attended by so many industry professionals. It gives me the opportunity to network and know so many people. They were very approachable and I believe I may have just secured a job!” Comments from a student
Five LOM students, together with their lecturer Cheryl Wee-Teo, attended the Supply Chain Asia Forum, held in Bangkok, from 9 – 11 Jan 2007. Besides participating in the Forum, the students helped out with the registration and administration of the forum.
This forum provided valuable opportunity for the students to network with more than 150 supply chain professionals across Asia. Besides enhancing their knowledge in the area of global logistics, the interaction with industry participants from various countries has instilled in the students a global mindset. Said Genevieve, “This trip was indeed fruitful, and it has definitely ignited a keen interest for me to explore overseas internship during my final year of studies.”
Being the only polytechnic that participated in the forum, the 5 students have profiled LOM to various logistics companies in Asia. In fact, many industry participants of the forum found TP students’ involvement in the event refreshing. The diploma is looking forward to greater participation in the next Supply Chain Asia Forum to be held in Singapore in July 2007.
