Supply Chain Asia held its fourth international forum which brought together logistics professionals from various parts of the industry and regions. This event took place at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront from 8th to 10th July 2008. A total of 20 students and recent graduates from the Diploma in Logistics & Operations Management, accompanied by lecturers Ms Oh Hui Ling and Mr Foo Choo Yen, were at the event as part of the organizing team. The following LOM staff also attended this event; Mr Goh Hock Kee (CM), Mr Selwyn Lim (SH), Mr Teo Kee Boon (SH) and Ms Cheryl Wee (Lecturer).
Discussion topics for this forum included the impact of emerging markets in China & India, Green Supply Chain, Consolidation of Growth of Organisations, Meeting Customer Needs with Infrastructure & IT and Issues in Cold Chain Management. A unique feature of this year’s event was the inclusion of the Young Professional’s forum which ran concurrently with the main forum. This one-day event featured 2 keynote speakers; Mr Teo Ser Luck (Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community, Youth & Sports and Ministry of Transport) and Dr Robert Yap (Chairman and CEO of YCH Group). At the Young Professionals Forum, topics relating to the development of young talents in the industry today were discussed. This year’s seminar was attended by about 228 international delegates and 62 young professionals.
16 LOM students were selected to help organize and run this event. They were responsible for the administrative functions of the event. These tasks ranged from packing / distributing bags to the ushering the delegates. While undertaking these administrative tasks, the students also mingled and interacted with the professionals who participated in the event. Some of them also participated in the industrial visit to YCH Distribution Centre.
From the comments and feedback received, this event was successful for both the participants as well as the students. The organizers and the participants had given very good comments regarding the responsibility and attitude of our LOM students. As for our students, most of them indicated that they were proud to represent LOM and TP in such an international event. They were also happy to know that an industrial community is available to discuss and to share problems / issues relating to this specialized profession.
