Singapore Soars As A Logistics Hub

Singapore is steadfastly growing as a logistics hub for multinational corporations (MNCs) as it emerged tops in a World Bank survey for efficient handling and shipping of goods.
The implementation of Portnet, a network portal that allows easy management and transfer of information, also contributed to the transformation of the shipping and logistics industry into a proactive and connected supply chain.
The local logistics industry has grown significantly due to a strong presence of MNCs and International Enterprise (IE) Singapore's constant efforts in developing the industry.
IE Singapore has helped local logistics firm secure overseas sales of over S$200 million in 2006. It regularly organizes logistics-specific business missions to help local logistics companies acquire new knowledge and information.
The transport and logistics business is a key driver of Singapore's economy. Last year, the sector accounted for 9.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP) and employed 110,000 workers.
Singapore aims to become the leading integrated logistics hub in Asia by 2010.
