Mr Benedict Fernandez     

Benedict Fernandez
Course manager

Benedict has 15 years of teaching experience in both private and public sectors. Besides teaching, Benedict is currently in charge of the Business School 's e-learning initiative. VBUS, Virtual Business School , was one of the first major e-learning projects in Temasek Polytechnic.

Benedict has also represented Temasek Poly as Singapore Volunteer in a Singapore International Foundation project with Bhutan .

His main areas of interest include e-learning projects, open technology in Business systems, artificial intelligences and web application development projects.

Mr Cheong Suay Chuan, Elton 

Cheong Suay Chuan, Elton
Section Head

Elton obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) from the University of Singapore, majoring in Statistics and Economics. He also holds a Masters of Science in Information Management from the University of Lancaster (UK).

Elton has always kept within his heart a strong passion for academic pursuit, and when Temasek Polytechnic opened in 1990, he left the private sector to join its Business School as one of the pioneer lecturers, specializing in areas of Statistics and Computing. His interest in computing is somehow coincidental, growing out of his curiosity in meddling with PC hardware as early as in late 80s. His current pursuits includes, among others, assembling and trouble-shooting of PCs and networking.

He had also lectured in Statistics for many years in the UOL undergraduate degree program with the Singapore Institute of Management. He had carried out statistical consultancy for several external organizations and was also involved in conducting the first graduate survey for the polytechnic. Prior to joining the polytechnic, he had with him more than 10 years of experience in the areas of trading, marketing and purchasing, dealing in wide ranging products. In one of his major projects, which lasted about 2½ years, he was instrumental in equipping the hotel equipment and operating supplies for the pre-opening of Raffles City hotel, the Westin Stamford and Westin Plaza. His last specialization was dealing in the marketing and purchasing of commodity products, papers and boards.

Ms Chong Fuey Sian, Phyllis 

Chong Fuey Sian, Phyllis
Section Head

Phyllis began her career in the IT arena with Hitachi Asia and DBS Bank. She had held positions in systems programming, application development and project management. Upon completing her MBA with Warwick Business School (UK), she joined the Defence Science & Technology Agency (DSTA) and moved into the field of business consulting.

At DSTA, Phyllis was instrumental in bringing about better customer satisfaction and enhanced competitiveness through leading a group of business analysts in business process re-engineering projects. She was also responsible for facilitating business planning workshops with senior workshops and conducting workshops on business process reengineering for all levels of staff in the organization. Her portfolio also included all aspects of business development encompassing customer engagement, business selection, entry strategy formulation, project costing and contract preparation and negotiation.

Phyllis’s teaching and research interests lie in data mining for business intelligence, business process re-engineering and customer relationship management. She has presented on customer relationship management at the NATAS CRM Seminar in Feb 2004.

Mr Phua Tjhai That 

Phua Tjhai That
Section Head

Graduated from Curtin University (Western Australia) with Bachelor of Business in Information Processing. Phua has 12 years of teaching experience. His area includes Business Applications, Database Design & Management.

Prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic, he was teaching in Curtin University before moving to Singapore to teach in a commercial Computer Training Centre. He has taught corporate clients a variety of office and database applications. In addition to his teaching portfolio, Phua has also worked as a systems analyst for a Stock Broking Firm as well.

Ms Tan-Tan Mei Nah 

Tan-Tan Mei Nah
Lecturer

Section Head for the course. Upon graduation, Mei Nah worked as a Marketing Support programmer analyst with NCR Corporation and two years later, as a systems analyst with Wang Computers Pte Ltd. She moved to Perkin-Elmer Data Systems, a subsidiary of the American company specializing in analytical instruments in their IT dept where she was in applications development for 5 years. Subsequently she joined SPH where she was in charge of the IT dept for the Singapore News & Publications group. In 1994 Mei Nah decided that teaching is her passion and joined TP as a lecturer.

Her areas of interests include database management systems, computer systems and applications, data mining and MIS. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies, reading and listening to music.

Mei Nah has a Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Singapore and a Masters in Instructional Design from NIE/NTU. She holds a BCS (Part 1) diploma.

Senior Lecturer

A graduate with the then University of Singapore, See-Toh Waikeong also has an MBA from the National University of Singapore in 1984. He has been with Temasek Polytechnic since it first started in 1990. His areas of interest include the application of open technology in business.

Mr Narayanan Nair 

Narayanan Nair
Lecturer

Narayanan obtained his BBA(Hons) from Wilfrid Laurier University, Ontario, Canada and his MEd from Sheffield University, UK.

He was with the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) for about 11 years before joining TP. In PSA he had held office in Operations, Research & Planning, and Information Systems. In the 80’s the port was expanding and pursuing information technology. As a project leader for one of the major systems connected to the PORTNET, he can recall the many challenging times.

Narayanan joined TP in 1991 and can be considered among the pioneers. His interest is in the strategic use of information systems in business.

Ms Aw-Mallare, Lenny F 

Aw-Mallare, Lenny F
Lecturer

Prior to joining TP in 1998, Lenny has had more than 9 years working experience in the IT industry from Systems Programming to Systems Support, Application Specialist and Software Training. She also taught many corporate clients Microsoft applications, as well as numerous Primary School Teachers under the Accelerated use of IT Program by the Ministry of Education.

Says Lenny, “What gave me the most satisfaction, aside from creating and debugging computer programs, would be the “Thank You’s” that I get from teaching and the satisfaction of sharing knowledge with others. I was happiest in the Training Room of the companies that I worked for and that was when I knew I was destined to teach.”

Her motto in Life : “Do onto others as you would like them to do unto you. Life is short. Live Life to the Fullest by touching the lives of others.”

Ms Norshida Binte Selamat 

Norshida Binte Selamat
Lecturer

Norshida graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Economics and Statistics. Her interest in all things logic and numbers, led her to acquire a Post-graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis and a Masters of Science Degree in Systems Control and Information Technology from University of Sheffield.

Prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic, she worked as a Biostatistician/Systems Administrator for the late Professor SS Ratnam, a world renowned scientist. Apart from assisting her boss and his medical team in clinical trials, she was also involved in developing database systems for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the National University of Singapore. One of the highlights of working for such a distinguished scientist was when she was a part of an international team working on a World Health Organization project. Recollecting those moments, Norshida says “The voluminous of the records in the project thrilled me to the bones. It’s pure joy to any Statistician.”

She has been an Associate Lecturer with Singapore Institute of Management, Open University Center where she teaches Relational Database in the degree program since 1998. In 1998, she was chosen as 2nd Marker by UK Open University for UK students’ Database Project.

Mr Lim Teng Kwee, Kelvin

Lecturer

Kelvin is a graduate of University of Central Lancashire, England and also holds a Masters in Education (Leadership, Policy and Change Management) from Monash University, Australia.

His career has included stints with Citibank - Global Information Network Division, The Vehicle Application Centre at England, OCBC Bank - Professional Development and Communication Section.  Kelvin has also served as an lecturer with Nanyang Polytechnic for five years in 1996.   

His areas of interest include enterprise resource management, knowledge management, change management, multimedia application, and youth development programme.

Mr Go Seng Bing

Lecturer

Seng Bing holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree with Honours in Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology, UMIST, (currently known as the University of Manchester) in the United Kingdoms and a Master of Engineering (by research) from the Information Communication Institute of Singapore, ICIS, at the Nanyang Technological University. He has graduated with a Master of Business Administration, specialising in Information Technology from the Nanyang Business School , at the Nanyang Technological University .

Prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic, he was working as a engineer with the National Library Board where he project managed the development of search engines, OPAC systems and knowledge management related projects, such as metadata and electronic content system, e-learning system, etc.

His current academic areas of interest are Knowledge Management, Strategic Planning, Usability Engineering (Human-computer Interface: Information Scent, Information Visualisation, e-Learning), Business Concept Innovation, Product/Service Innovation and Business Process/System Improvement & Reengineering, e-Commerce, Non-Linear Thinking.

He is a member of The Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers, Inc., United States of America and a committee member of The Institution of Engineering & Technology, Singapore Network.

Mr Jackson Ng 

Jackson Ng
Lecturer

Jackson brings with him more than 8 years of business consulting and technology solution development experience.

Prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic, he was the Head of Business Solutions in a regional technology service company where he led a team in architecting and developing an Enterprise Resource Planning suite localized for the Asia markets. He subsequently moved into the realms of sales and marketing where he was responsible for product branding, evangelism and channel partner management.

Jackson was a founding partner of a technology start-up during the dot-com era and understood thoroughly the pains and needs of small business owners.

Formerly an adjunct lecturer at Singapore Polytechnic where he taught first year students their first course in computer programming, Jackson believes strongly in business requirements-led technology adoption and seeks to inculcate the ability in thinking ‘business' to everyone he has taught technology to.

When not twiddling with computers, Jackson enjoys playing music and building scale models of movie characters, cars and robots.

Ms Lim Pek Seah 

Lim Pek Seah
Lecturer

Pek Seah graduated from the National University of Singapore with Honours in Bachelor of Computing (Information Systems). She has worked in Crimsonlogic, National Computer Systems and Post Office Savings Bank before joining Temasek Polytechnic. Her involvement in these companies enables her to be in touch with the technical aspects of project planning, development and testing. It also provides her skills in terms of people management. The systems that she has worked on attained ISO and CMMi certification. She has also conducted disaster recovery exercises for critical systems.

She has worked as a part-time tutor in National University of Singapore, conducting "Computer Communication Networks" and "Economics of E-Business" lessons. This experience has speared her into developing an interest for the academic arena. Her area of interest lies in information security and privacy.

Kun Mei Ying

Meiying joins TP from Discovery Networks Asia (the Asia Pacific headquarters of Discovery Communications Inc.) where she was a Project Manager in the Information Technology Department. While in this role, she implemented various IT projects for business users both regionally (in Asia Pacific) as well as internationally. Prior to that, she was at the Keppel Group where she was a Systems Analyst and was involved in the development of various enterprise-wide systems. She has a total of 9 years of IT project development and implementation experience of which 5 years are related to project management and process formulation.

Being a keen learner herself, Meiying strongly believes that learning should be fun and she hopes to be able to inspire her students with an energetic and creative teaching approach.

Meiying holds a Masters of Science Degree (Management of Technology) as well as a Bachelor of Science (Information Systems and Computer Science) Degree from the National University of Singapore.

Ms Serene Chng 

Serene Chng
Lecturer


Serene graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Computing (Information Systems) with 2nd Upper Class Honours. She also obtained a Master of Business Administration from University of Southern Queensland, Australia.

Prior to joining TP, Serene has both technical and business working experiences in different industries which include shipping, education and financial services (bancassurance). Upon graduation, she joined Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore where she was responsible for the design, development and consolidation of bunkering systems and e-services. Working in the Planning Division at MOE (HQ), she helped to identify business needs and requirements for one of the key clusters in the student information hub project that involved the migration of various legacy systems and consolidation of student and examination databanks. With the interest to meet people from all walks of life, Serene has further gained invaluable working experience in dealing and managing a diversified range of customers when she worked with Aviva Ltd.

Her present interests include singing, playing guitar, boardgames and travelling. She is involved in volunteer work for outreach programmes with the elderly during festive seasons.

Serene looks forward to being part of the TP family, sharing and making a positive difference in everyone.

Pearl has over ten years of experience with the IT department in the bank prior to joining TP. With the accomplishment of each systems project, she sees the satisfaction in bringing value to the users and forging friendship with them. She also has eight years of teaching experience in subjects like Business Computing, E-Business and Enterprise Resource Management. Chan Pei Ling, Berlin

Berlin started working as a Quality Control Engineering Assistant in a hard disk manufacturing company, Western Digital for 3 years. During her stay there, she experienced the rapid trends in the various technology advancement and realized the importance of continuing education in order to learn new knowledge in a more effective and efficient way. Therefore, she took a 5 years part-time engineering degree in NTU and graduated with a Bachelor in Mechanical and Production Engineering.

At TP, she manages the BUS computer labs and provides technical support for staff and students. Due to her past experiences in ISO audit, she took the challenge of taking on the job of coordinator of ISO for BUS computer labs.

Berlin loves to sing and exercise. She enjoys crooning Mandarin and Cantonese hits in karaoke sessions. She also jogs regularly and her endurance in long distance running is her personal achievement. Her motto : “To stay fit and healthy!”. As a Sabahan, she hopes to climb Mount Kota Kinabalu at least once in her life-time.

Giam Siew Hua, Patricia

Patricia has been working in statutory boards for the past 25 years mainly in educational institutions. She taught in part-time modular courses for a vocational institution for a number of years, mainly in Digital Electronics.

After working for Temasek Polytechnics for 10 years, she decided to pack up and to further her studies in Australia. Two years later, she graduated with a Bachelor of Information Technology in Data communication from Queensland University of Technology. She returned to TP and now manages BUS computer labs and provides technical support for staff and students.

Patricia loves traveling and has backpacked to the Canadian Rockies in her younger days. On weekends she enjoys baking. She shares her passion with her fellow colleagues and exchanges cooking tips with them. But she has cut down on baking recently, as she says she has to watch the waistline!

Yap Siong Hong, Susan

Susan joined Temasek Polytechnic as a Technical Support Officer in 1998. Her duties include managing computer labs and providing technical support to both students and staff.

Prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic, Susan worked in a computer manufacturing company for more than 10 years. She started off as an Engineering Assistant and was promoted to Production Supervisor. That was the place where she gained experience in computer troubleshooting, product development, production planning, purchasing and inventory control.

For leisure, she likes exercising, traveling, and SHOPPING!

Johnny Yeo has been working in Temasek Polytechnic as a Technical Support officer since 1998. Prior to joining TP, he had worked in National Institute of Education as a lab technician where he provided end user support for administrative as well as academic staff. He joined TP for a change as he believed that his experience at NIE would be useful. At TP, besides taking care of computer labs and attending to both staff and students’ IT needs, he is given the opportunity to handle server administration.

In his leisure time, Johnny enjoys swimming and cycling with his family.
